[WSBAPT] Recording Fee Increases - King County

I remember going back into private practice in 1998. I think it was $12 to record a deed. A $100 increase is quite noteworthy. I understand that WA's tax structure incents the government to embed revenue streams in user fees. But whether user fees or a net income tax there are principles of sound tax policy that would suggest you do not weight an activity so heavily that it becomes untenable. This will impact estate planning for some modest estates.

Fee increase coming Jan. 1, 2024
Most recording fees will increase by $100 starting January 1, 2024. The basic recording fee will be $303.50. The fee increases are mandated by state law.
The fee increase does not apply to:
*       assignments or substitutions of previously recorded deeds of trust
*       documents recording a birth, marriage, divorce, or death
*       marriage licenses issued by a county in Washington state
*       documents recording a federal, state, county, city, water-sewer district, or wage lien, or satisfaction of lien
*       any recorded documents otherwise exempted under state law

Note: When recording multiple titles in one document, additional recording fees are required for each title, but additional page fees do not apply.
