Brent, thank you very much for investigating this. Is there any advice from the clerk’s office on how we can best manage this issue, to help them and help ourselves?


  *   How/where can we check to determine if we’re actually set for the day?
  *   How soon after filing can we check to determine if we’re actually set for that day?
  *   If we do check and our case isn’t listed, do we just try again using the same system, or is there an alternative method?
  *   What about working copies paid for the original hearing? I’m a bit concerned because I would like to not pay $30 for working copies every time I have to move a hearing; I’d like to be able to just move the working copies to the new date, if possible.

I learned something really helpful from Elanor’s post, about being able to see the case numbers of scheduled cases by hovering over the calendar date in the calendar availability tool—thanks Elanor! Maybe this is the answer about how/where to check on status?

So I just tried it—go to the availability tool, https://dja-prd-ecexap1.kingcounty.gov/?q=epvccal, plug in some dates, then when it shows the dates with “full” or “closed” or “X available”, hover the cursor over a date and it will show the case numbers scheduled for that date. I wish I had discovered this sooner!

Greeting List Members -

As many of you know, I am presently the 8th CD Governor for the WSBA Board of Governors. (official email for those activities are brentwr.bog at gmail.com<mailto:brentwr.bog at gmail.com>) but when I see posts that I can investigate into further, I do.

First, I am sorry to hear about the scheduling issues that is happening with the King County Courts and Clerk's Office.  I reached out to the Clerk's office to ask what is going on - not as to get any excuse but to truly get the word out to everyone who is working.

In short -they are swamped and overwhelmed. Between the "end" of the pandemic and the releasing of various moratoriums, the change in the Guardianship/Conservatorship law has caused a massive tidal wave of hearings.  In fact, there are FIFTEEN (15) open positions in the clerks office at this very moment that is causing part of the problem.

Bottom line from my conversation - this is going to be an issue for a while. Be extra vigilant when scheduling and verify verify verify.

The Courts are in a perfect storm right now and sadly, I will not be surprised to see more of the posts like we did from Elanor, Dalynne, Michael, et al.

I wish I had been able to get a work around, an absolute solution - but I also did not want to sit back and not share what I had learned.
