Hi Bryan,
I recently bought a sealed document in a divorce with a decedent. In my case, I represented the ex-wife of the decedent, so I was able to file my Notice of Appearance for the ex-wife in the divorce (can’t remember the last time I appeared in a Type 3 case before this…), went to the 6th floor, and patiently waited while they dug up the microfilm and sold me a copy of the Sealed Property Settlement Agreement. Note that any time you want to buy a sealed pleading, you have to appear at the Clerk’s office in person for them to verify your driver’s license and Notice of Appearance in the case.
In your case, I think you can appear for the PR on behalf of the deceased party. I would expect the Clerk’s Office to treat you as counsel for a party, and sell you the Sealed pleading you want, except if it is one of the protected sealed documents.
To Mark’s point, GR 22 prohibits you from buying the Confidential Info Form, Domestic Violence Info Form, and LEIS if there was a restraining order, but otherwise counsel for a party can buy sealed pleadings. GR 22(h)(2).
Feel free to call me if you have questions about the logistics. I’ve braved the courthouse a few times during the pandemic to buy sealed reports.

Looking for guidance in obtaining a copy of a sealed pleading from a divorce matter (King County). I represent the estate of the husband, who is now deceased. Can this be done without a court order? I’d rather not tip of ex-wife that the estate is going after her for items we believe she misappropriated from the estate.
