[WSBAPT] Distribution of Gift - authority to accept

It is my understanding that some churches do not get 501(c)(3) status from the IRS, that there is a statutory exception that allows deductible contributions to churches without official IRS status.

Yes, and doesn’t it normally have 501(c)(3) status that could be looked up on the Wa Secretary of State’s website?

I really have become disenchanted with the Catholic Church.

Typically this would go to the archdiocese. So be careful.
Unless the will is specific as to a particular endowment fund, etc.
(I cannot claim any expertise on this matter, but I asked a partner of mine who has been on a variety of Catholic boards, committees, etc.). So don’t take my word for it; be cautious.

Will requires a million dollars to be disbursed to 6 charities - one being a Catholic church and the priest says he is authorized to accept. I am not to sure of the scope of his authority as Priest or Father. Would appreciate how others have dealt with these types of organizations and who signs the beneficiary receipts.
Thanks
Mike
