[WSBAPT] House Fire and Third Party Adjusters

Those folks are "public adjusters" also colloquially known as "fire-chasers." They aggressively target people who have experienced an insured loss, and purport to work with the person's insurance company for a percentage of the recovery. I would advise your client to ignore them or tell them not to contact him again. He can also report them to the insurance commissioner if they persist. The attached document from the OIC has some good advice about now not to become the victim of an insurance scam and also how to make a fire claim with his insurer.

Subject: [WSBAPT] House Fire and Third Party Adjusters

A client of mine lost everything in a house fire over the weekend. He is being pressured by third party adjusters to sign up with them to recover against his insurance. One adjuster is Adjusters International and another Adjusters International PNW. These adjusters are not associated with Farmers and charge up to 10% for a recovery.

Looking for a referral to an attorney who handles insurance for the consumer. He does not know if he needs one yet, but doesn't like being pressured by these adjusters. Client is in Kent/Auburn area.

If anyone is familiar with these outfits, comments are welcomed.

Very truly yours,
Maureen A. Wickert, Attorney at Law
