Subject: WSBA reforms halted by WA Supreme Court!

Dear Fellow WSBA Members,

Please see the attached letter from Washington State Supreme Court Chief
Justice Fairhurst. Among other things, all WSBA governance reforms have been
halted pending a "comprehensive review of the structure of the Bar."

This letter comes on the heels of an action by the court reversing the Board
of Governor's recent decision to increase LLLT and LPO dues.

In my personal view as an elected Governor, this and other recent trends and
developments confirm what many of us have feared:

the authority of the Board of Governors is a fiction,
the WSBA Bylaws are a fiction,
the Washington State Bar Act is a fiction, and
Board oversight over the Executive Director is a fiction.

The Board of Governors meets next Thursday and Friday. The agenda has been
wiped clean of any governance reforms, including proposed Bylaw amendments
rolling back the three new appointed BOG seats and eight other proposals
that were previously scheduled for first read.

Members should consider showing up to cautiously express their views about
these historic developments.

Feel free to share this email with fellow WSBA Members. Because of recent
retaliations against reform-oriented Governors, it is highly unlikely that
any other reform-oriented Governors will share this information or their
personal views about it.

If you received this email indirectly and wish to be on my email list,
please let me know.

Respectfully,

Paul Swegle, Governor, Dist 7N
Washington State Bar Association
