If you are representing an heir in the context of getting assets they think
are theirs (a will contest for example) not only do I think it's allowed, I
know people that have done it.

It is very similar to the personal injury world in that there is some
inherent risk associated with taking a case like that. If the person would
prefer to pay you only if they prevail, and they are willing to pay a
premium for shifting that risk, and your analysis tells you the case is a
good one, then go for it.
