[WSBAPT] Student loan co-signer

I have dealt with this issue in my practice.  Federally backed student loans are cancelled and the debt is forgiven on the death of the borrower.  Whether a private loan is dischargeable depends on the agreement with the lender. Send notice to creditors to any of the private lenders.

Apparently,  a grandfather co-signed a number of student loans for grandchildren before his recent death.   I think I remember that the debt of a student loan is extinguished upon the death of the student.  Does the same hold true of a co-signer?  Does it depend on the lender?  Any help appreciated.
