[WSBAPT] Caregiver Contract

There are "red flags" waiving all over these kinds of situations. Often the
care giver wants to work under the table to avoid adverse impacts on SS if
under full retirement age, to avoid payroll taxes, etc. You typically have
all your eggs in one basket, so that if the care giver is for any reason
unavailable, you have to go back to square one and start over. If the
person leaves your client's employ under bad circumstances and complains to
the wage and hour agency, the client is in big trouble, and you may be
there as well for helping set up this deal in the first place.

The nicest people in the world will steal from you given the opportunity. I
have been there. If you are hiring a professional care business, their
people are licensed, bonded and insured. If the care giver is unavailable,
they bring in a replacement immediately.
The typical under the table caregiver works for $15/hr. A professional will
charge more like $25, but if the client runs out of money, Medicaid is
available for care.
I would not recommend exposing yourself to all these risks, especially for
free.
