I agree.  Is the point of one probate to save the $240 filing fee?   You will spend way more than an hour messing around with the different language needed in the petition and order, and getting a EIN number, dealing with accounts, etc.

I have found a Joint probate to be more complicated where there are non-brokerage held stocks or bonds.

I don't find it complicated to open two probates where there will be a need for two TINs and or separate letters.

Hi Jenna,

A joint probate will work for this.  The language in the pleadings can get a little unusual, as you need to open one as testate, and one as intestate, and then get Letters Testamentary, and also Letters of Administration.  (unless anyone else has a workaround for that, which I would be happy to hear!)
