I agree with Eric but instead usually also get the “certificate of mailing” when sending legal notices to heirs, beneficiaries, creditors. Much cheaper and easier than certified mail, which often scares recipients, and provides the proof I really need. Good luck, Cy

Statute says regular mail, so I send it regular mail, always. I find certified mail counterproductive for just this reason. From a legal standpoint, I don't care if they get actual notice; I just follow the statute.

If you want delivery confirmation, you can get that from USPS without them being required to sign for it. It's in their list of service somewhere...

I would appreciate any collective knowledge on my next step.  I closed a probate and sent certified mail notice to the beneficiary of the closing to start the 30 day objection clock.  However, the beneficiary did not sign for the letter and it was returned.

#1 - is certification over-kill so just resend regular first-class?
#2 - if certified is the better method, do I need to hire someone to personally serve now that it was not picked up?

Other thoughts on what is normal practice when sending notice would be appreciated.
