The Washington legislature passed an amendment to the Residential
Landlord-Tenant Act dealing with what to do with Deceased Tenants, which
became effective on 07/24/2015.

Subject: [WSBAPT] Deceased tenant with no family

Listmates, I have a client that owns an apartment house. Long term tenant
(20 years) has died. Client knows of no family members and has gone through
his paperwork and found no will or any indication of any family members at
all. Assets total a few hundred dollars in a bank account, an old truck
worth maybe $500 and no other assets. Is anyone aware of any obligation on
the part of landlord to do anything regarding storing of the belongings
which have virtually no value. My inclination is to tell him to clean the
place out, dump the junk and re-rent the unit but before giving that advice
I wanted to run it by some of the wiser minds on this list. Any insight is
appreciated.
