Jennifer, Here is a paragraph I use. It can be formatted to your client's specifics.

(c ) T h e s u m o f F i f t ee n Thous a nd Doll ar s ( $15,000) sh a ll be p r o ra t e d b y the numb e r of su r viving p e ts. F or inst a n ce : i) if t wo su r viving d o g s, th e n S e v e n Thous a nd F ive Hund re d Doll ar s ( $7,50 0 ) would be a llott e d to eac h do g ; or ii) if th re e su r viving do g s, th e n F ive Thous a nd Doll ar s ( $5,0 0 0) would be a llott e d to e a c h do g . 

  

( d ) The sums d e si g n a t e d a b ove shall be given to the adoptive family or families of my pets. In the event my Personal Representative places one or more of my pets with a rescue society or no kill organization such as PAWS, the rescue society or organization shall receive the pro rata share of this bequest. 

                                      (e) In the event that I have no pets on the date of my death, this specific bequest shall lapse

Good morning all, 

A client would like to have some provision in her will so that any pet she might own when she dies is taken care of and not just shipped off to the pound or euthanized.  She is considering leaving a small amount of money to whomever agrees to take the pet and is fine with leaving the details - the amount of money and the person to whom the pet will go – up to the personal representative.  I was just going to add a paragraph authorizing the personal representative to select a suitable person to receive  the pet and to determine an appropriate one-time payment.  There is not enough money to warrant a pet trust nor does the client want to be so formal. 

Does anyone have flexible language that they recommend for use in wills for this scenario?
