[WSBAPT]Guardianship through a Will (piggyback question)

The issue of naming a Guardian for a minor child through a Will is a
question that comes up in my practice at times. A question was posed to
this listserve on this topic and brought up that this may be a family law
issue as opposed to probate. I would like more information from anyone
willing to offer it.

 

Has anyone handled a probate where the deceased parent named a Guardian
for the minor child? If it is not contested by any relative, how does it
work? Can you give me the short version of the process? Is a Social Worker
appointed? Is this a dependency case until the court names the Guardian?

 

Also, if anyone has researched language around Guardianships of minors in
Wills, please do share.
