Mates,

I have a case of first impression to me and would appreciate advice.
Facts: Decedent died two weeks ago. Decedent married his long-time
girlfriend on 7/7/14. Decedent resided at girlfriend/now wife’s
residence. Daughter is successor trustee of Decedent’s RLT. Although
wife and daughter amicably worked on the funeral together, wife now
refuses to allow daughter to access her father’s personal effects,
including his laptop computer. In fact, wife called police when daughter
requested access into the house. Daughter waited for police and was told
that she would have to sue wife.

Daughter is adamant that father kept no paper and that all of his
financial information is on his password protected computer.

Among other advice, I have advised daughter to change her father’s mailing
address and to request past returns from the IRS.

Additional thoughts?
