A former probate client has inquired about a landlord-tenant matter in
Bellingham.  It is a small matter, but I don’t practice this type of law.
I would appreciate your input.  I initially advised him to just pay the
amount, as hiring an attorney would quickly eclipse the amount owed.
However, he and his wife feel they are being cheated and would rather pay
an attorney a small amount to review the correspondence and make it right.
Should I give him the name of local counsel in Bellingham (any
suggestions?) or instruct him as to how to respond to the following
situation as reported by him:

 

1.We moved out on Aug 31 2013  

2. We received a check around the 10th of Sept. with half of our deposit –
they kept $730.00.  The move out statement had someone else’s name on it.

3. Around Nov. 15 we received  our move out statement with a demand for
payment of $424.41

4. We have sent numerous letters back and forth and we believe we only owe
$83.91.
