[WSBAPT] Marital Status on Death Certificate

The back of the death certificate should have a section for making
corrections.  If client takes all of the certified copies in to The
Department of Health (Vital Statistics), they will make the correction and
replace each returned certified with a corrected certified free of charge.
At least that has been my experience with two different decedents as
recently as two months ago.

Just curious what others think about this…….

 

Talking to son about a probate for one of two women in same sex marriage.
The two women registered as domestic partners in 2007 and legally married
last year. The death certificate shows in the marital status “domestic
partners” and not married. I recommended that the death certificate should
be corrected, but the son received push back from the funeral home. The
surviving spouse is incapacitated. Has anyone been successful to request
such correction?  Has anyone encountered confusion over a similar
situation with third parties?
