Idaho House backs legalizing CBD oil, sends measure to Senate

BOISE – The Idaho House voted 59-11 on Wednesday in favor of legislation to legalize marijuana-derived CBD oil for medical use, sending the bill to the Senate.

Lawmakers passed legislation in 2015 to allow parents to use CBD oil to treat ill children, but Gov. Butch Otter vetoed it, citing concerns about expanding the use of illegal drugs in the state. On Wednesday, at a “Capitol for a Day” meeting in eastern Idaho, Otter said he still opposes the idea, calling it the “camel’s nose under the tent,” according to the Idaho Falls Post Register.

All North Idaho representatives voted in favor of the bill Wednesday except for Rep. Luke Malek, R-Coeur d’Alene.
