Don't blame this lunatic on Moscow or Latah county. Blame it on Republican gerrymandering and the knuckle draggers in St. Maries. Waste of taxpayer's money to send this fool to Boise.

Beam Me Up, Kitty! It's Star Trek with Cats

Star Trek is a sci-fi classic; the only thing that could make it better? Cats.

Thankfully, the beacon of light that is illustrator Jenny Parks has transformed scenes from the original Star Trek series (sorry Next Generation and Voyager fans!) into kitty-filled tributes to the show.

We got a peek at the book she created out of this amazing brainstorm, which has the simple and straight forward title, Star Trek Cats.

So, let?s get ready to beam to a land where all things Star Trek just got a little furrier, and we aren?t talking about tribbles.

Captain Kirk may have been replaced with a kitty, but this orange meower still has William Shatner?s signature swagger.

?I?ve been a cat person for as long as I can remember. Combine that with a scientific illustrator?s passion for drawing animals and all things nerdy, and you get a series of my favorite pop culture characters as cats. Somehow it all became more than just a ridiculous hobby, as I realized how many people out there loved these cats, too,? said Parks, explaining her book?s origin story.

?One of the things I enjoyed most about working on Star Trek Cats, was figuring out what breeds to make each character,? she added. ?Obviously Scotty had to be a Scottish Fold, but it took some searching to find a cat for Spock with appropriately distinctive ears, which I eventually found in the Oriental Shorthair.?

Not only does feline Spock have his human/Vulcan counterpart?s infamous ears, but Park also made sure to give him an ectrodactyly thumb, so Spock could still flash his favorite hand gesture.

To see even more of these Star Trek sweeties, get your own copy of Star Trek Cats (Chronicle Books, $14.95 hardcover) for the sci-fi cat fanatic in your life.

Foreman's anti-abortion bill goes nowhere

A controversial anti-abortion bill that would charge mothers and doctors with first-degree murder won't be moving forward this session.

Sen. Dan Foreman, R-Moscow, said he hasn't been able to get a print hearing for the legislation.

When he announced the bill on the second day of the session, Foreman said he was "tired of babies dying. It's time to start the fight, and I'll be the point man."

However, the measure went beyond what even pro-life groups could support. Right to Life of Idaho, for example, said subjecting women to criminal penalties "is inconsistent with the historic pro-life position."

"Based on our experience ... we are convinced that abortion is most often a tragically desperate act," the organization noted in a written statement. "We have never supported legislation containing criminal penalties for women. We stand with women and men to offer them realistic alternatives to abortion."

Prior to the election, some of us were aware of the unhinged extremism that
is Dan Foreman, which is why he lost the Republican primary in Latah County
for sheriff.  Rank partisanship -- rather than running a worthy candidate -
"inspired" the local GOP party to decide that particular loser would make a
great fill-in candidate for senator.  SMH.  While many folks weren't aware
of the depths of Foreman's extremism, one thing is certain:  local
Republican party leaders absolutely knew and backed him anyway.  Their plan
was to keep a tight lid on his extremism for public consumption just to get
someone elected with a "R" after his name rather than run a quality
candidate.  Sad!

The rest of us - at least those of us with connected brain cells, anyway -
realized how completely out of touch with reality Foreman was in early
January when he was outed by in an article entitled, "Idaho lawmaker would
charge women who have abortions with murder
le125859554.html> ."

And, this theocrat craving man just continues to let his freak flag fly
high, and we can now add anti-science and anti-common sense to his litany of
"antis" which include (but are not limited to) anti-women, anti-child,
anti-public education, anti-road, anti-public & common good, and

Oh, and we can also add that he's a voracious consumer of Fake News.  Sad!

If there are any reasonable people who haven't yet realized the depth of
betrayal of our district by local Republican party leadership, here's a
letter he recently wrote to a constituent
2&e=4950b149ab> :

If it weren't so serious, it would be funny, right?  Here's a man lamenting
the loss of critical thinking skills who himself lacks the critical thinking
skills to recognize he's pushing fake news, for the love of God, and who is
fine with gutting and dumbing down public education so our children will
never develop the critical thinking skills he's whining about.

And, all of this from a man who couldn't critically think himself out of a
wet paper bag.  Sad!

It's no wonder intelligent life-long Republicans here in Latah County have
been worried for quite a few years and have quit being "party" people with
the spread of the rabid extremism that has infected the state and local
Republican parties.  Perhaps that exodus is a significant factor in the
local Republican party not having a quality candidate to run for the senate
in the last election.

Several weeks ago - after that first article - I heard rumors of a recall
effort.  Does anyone know anything more about that?  If the local Republican
Party lacks the ability to keep this horror in check or convince him to step
down so someone not unhinged can step up to represent us, perhaps a recall
is the way to go.
