UI Theatre Arts Hosts Free Fall Drama Camp for Youth

MOSCOW, Idaho – Oct. 12, 2016 —The University of Idaho student chapter of Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP) and the Department of Theatre Arts are offering a free six-week drama camp for youths ages 8 to 18. The camp runs from 6- 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 24 to Nov. 30. Registration forms are available at www.uidaho.edu/theatre<http://www.uidaho.edu/theatre>.

Participants will learn about acting, movement, music, storytelling, set design, props and costumes from College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences theater students and ASTEP members. The camp will culminate in a free public performance of “A Little Christmas Carol” at noon, Dec. 4 at the Hartung Theater, 625 Stadium Drive, Moscow.

With this camp, ASTEP members hope to help children build self-confidence.

“At ASTEP we believe the arts have an unstoppable ability to incite change subtly and boisterously with an unstoppable educational impact,” said UI senior Kevin Neighbors, president of the student chapter. “Through the arts children learn to speak articulately about culture and history, they learn social skills, a sense of self-worth and problem solving. We hope children can learn to think critically, creatively and imaginatively in the mode that they thrive best — through their own imaginations”

The camp is limited to 15 students and no previous theatrical experience is necessary. For more information, visit www.uidaho.edu/theatre<http://www.uidaho.edu/theatre> or call 208-885-6465.
