Darrell asked:

“Hopefully you've seen a variety of other offerings you do like...”

Yes, absolutely. I appreciate your posts to V2020 letting us know what’s going on at the Latah Recovery Center and the wide variety of classes & support offered. Speaking as a member of the community, I’ve been happy to have this resource available to support those working towards recovery.

Which is why I was so disappointed to see an unlicensed DVM cum snake oil homeopathic practitioner billed. Just as I wouldn’t keep my trap shut if someone posted thoroughly debunked claims that immunizations cause autism, or claiming – as does Fudens -- that rabies vaccinations are a scam, I have a responsibility to speak out against the quackery that is homeopathy whenever it is presented with any legitimacy that can mislead people, especially the desperate and the vulnerable.

This was one of those times.

I'm taking a cautious view. Our bylaws are clear-we are open to all routes to recovery. I interviewed the guy more thoroughly than usual, etc. Also plan to sit in the session. At the same time, didn't want my own biases to cause an alternate view not to be discussed.

If we went against every offering people might not like we'd be very limited.

No AA (has belief in a higher being)

No Yoga (linked to eastern mysticism/religion)

No art (Seems there's always someone finding an issue with art!)

No psychology (Might offend the scientologists)

etc...

Hopefully you've seen a variety of other offerings you do like...

I suppose that approach (whatever floats one’s boat) is more palatable if you’ve not worked with desperate people who have spent so much on homeopathic and “other” remedies that they can’t pay for anything else . . and have no time left to get effective help :(

Besides, I do think there’s a difference between presenting modalities that have some bone fide evidence of efficacy and pseudoscience like homeopathy which has no independent evidence of efficacy other than making the wallet lighter.

We're open to all paths to recovery, Saundra. We don't advocate for or against paths that may be of help. If people want to try homeopathy is up to them. Just like we don't advocate for or against religious paths to recovery, drug replacement therapies, etc.

Really??? Wow – I’m very, very sorry to see Latah Recovery Center allow transplanted quacks and charlatans access to vulnerable folks :( Homeopathy – which this quack specializes in – is a pseudoscience well-recognized to financially prey on the vulnerable and desperate.

This former veterinarian wackadoo also espouses a whole lot of flatly dangerous vet med . . . opinions, which is how I first came across him.

For those who aren’t aware, take a minute to ponder this about homeopathic remedies:

“There’s one exception to the rule that homeopathic products are basically sugar and water. Many of them list alcohol as an “inactive” ingredient <http://barkpost.com/petco-product-pulled-alcohol/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=post> . Because labeling laws on homeopathy are so different from regulations on real medicine <https://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/how-should-the-fda-regulate-homeopathic-remedies/> with proven ingredients, the only actual drug in a bottle of homeopathic medicine—ethanol, the same active ingredient in vodka—doesn’t have to be listed as a drug. This is not an isolated case.”

For Immediate Release:

Dr. John Fudens, HMC will be discussing holistic approaches to recovery from addiction and mental health issues. "As a homeopathic master clinician, I am concerned with all aspects of the being who is sick. The physical, mental, emotional, and psychological levels are all important. All aspects of the life are examined, from birth to adulthood, their track through life, including family background, schooling, health of parents, surgeries, drugs, injuries, etc." Fudens is trained to work holistically with both animals and humans. He will be speaking on 4/12/16, from 6:30-8pm. The Latah Recovery Center is located at 531 S Main, in Moscow.
