Here is a pertinent comment from a reader of the Chronicle of Higher
Education on the incident;

*I think the rule of the day is that you can be shot at school, at
university, in hospital, at the movies, at church, at a cafeteria, at a
coffee shop, on the subway, on a bus, on a bicycle, in your home, at the
park, in your car, in your bed. Obama had it wrong when he said people were
clinging to guns and religion because, clearly, guns are the religion, guns
ARE god for more and more people.*
