Letter: Most Christians disagree with Wilson
Thanks for your article about Doug Wilson's latest shenanigans - standing on a rainbow flag and descrying same-sex marriage ("Christ Church minister explains opposition to same-sex marriage," July 15).
As important as it is to promote awareness of what the most radical of reactionary Christians is up to, it is even more important to realize that not all - certainly not even most - Christians agree with his sect's tenets. Indeed, a number of local churches are more than happy to receive same-sex couples seeking to marry. Some, such as the Pullman CCUCC, have long been open and affirming and have conducted same-sex ceremonies even before they were legal in our state.
Please do help us know what people like Wilson are up to. However, please also present the full picture with regard to religious practices in our communities. Many people turn away from religion because all they see is Wilson and his ilk. That is a shame.

Letter: The snare of the devil
Thank you for the great photograph of Doug Wilson in his pride and your article on him and his ideas ("Christ Church minister explains opposition to same-sex marriage," July 15). Doug reminds me of advice given to early Christian churches on choosing a bishop:
"He must not be a recent convert, or he may be puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace and the snare of the devil" (1 Timothy 3:6).
Although Doug is not exactly a recent convert, he appears to many outsiders as puffed up with conceit. And his perennial, prurient preoccupation with other people's sex lives leads folks to think he must certainly have fallen into disgrace and the snare of the devil.
