[Vision2020] Question, V-Peeps . . .

I have to say I’m not overly familiar with the situation, but it’s interesting to me in light of a conversation I had just this week with a newcomer to Moscow who was gob-smacked that free speech was limited to only certain areas during the Market.

It seems to me I recall some discussion from a few years ago about free speech being allowed only in certain designated areas of the Farmer’s Market and being disallowed from the rest of the Market, but I really can’t remember any details. I found the following on the City’s Web site, which seems to indicate this is indeed the case:

https://www.ci.moscow.id.us/records/Policy/FM-Square-Policy.pdf

“Any individual or group using all or part of the Speakers Space may also move freely within Friendship Square and within public spaces outside of the Market but such Speaker(s) may not conduct business, sales or Speakers activities within the Market.”

If I’m correctly understanding, it seems pretty crazy to me that the City is OK with limiting the First Amendment and excluding dogs but is just peachy fine with open carry.

I’m interested in learning more about this prioritization if anyone can help educate me.

TIA,

That's just it, Janesta. You didn't mention "appropriate behavior".

I did . . . because I feel that, although it is legal to open-carry at Farmers Market, "appropriate behavior" should be considered before a person straps on his/her six-shooter and heads on over to Farmers Market.

FYI: I own a double-barrel (side-by-side) 12-gauge shotgun, which stays at home. That sucker ain't seen daylight since we moved from Taylor Avenue to our current address three years ago.

Tom,

I am puzzled. Where did I mention anything about "appropriate behavior?"

I realize that it is legal, Janesta.

In response to "Why carry guns to Farmers Market", you suggest that "appropriate behavior" should not be a consideration?

Let me see now . . .

I can't take my pet dog to Farmer's Market.

I can't light up a cigarette at Farmers Market.

But, I can pack a couple loaded Glock 9's, an AR-15, a couple 30-round clips, a 100-round drum., a head on over to Friendship Square . . . to join a bunch of my friends in a li'l "show 'n tell".

Why? Because open carry is legal.

btw. once upon a time, open carry referred to drinking a can of beer while walking, or driving

Yes! For a long time it was not illegal to have an open container in the car in Idaho..

yep! I am oficially *old* because when I opened the image, the first thing I looked for?

A can of beer.

What is the law concerning open-carry at Moscow's Farmers Market?

If open-carry is legal at Farmers Market (as I suspect it is), when would it be appropriate? Simply asked . . . WHY?
