[Vision2020] Movember

Hello Everyone,

I know there has been a lot of discussion about charities on the Viz lately so I am going to take this opportunity to promote an activity that City employees are participating in.  This year the City of Moscow employees are taking part in Movember<http://us.movember.com/> and I would like to invite all of you to as well! The Movember Foundation puts on this event each year during the month of November in order to "change the face of men's health." The goal is to raise awareness and funds for men's health issues; especially prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health.

The rules are simple:

1)     Begin the 1st of November with a clean shaven face

2)     For the entire month, grow and groom a moustache

3)     No beards, no goatees, no fake moustaches.

4)     Use the power of the moustache to create conversations about men's health

5)     Conduct yourself like a gentleman (or lady)

Click on the blue link above to sign up to donate to the City of Moscow team or to become a Mo Bro or a Mo Sista (if you choose to participate, I would love to get a photo of your clean-shaven face from November 1st and your mustache on November 30th - the photos don't need to be sent on those days just taken on those days). For those who can't (ladies!) or who don't want to grow a 'stache but still do their part, you can collect and donate funds to the cause to support research on men's health issues as well as encouraging the men in your life to talk about their health with each other and their doctors.

Here are a few of the numerous and complex reasons for the poor state of men's health:

  *   Lack of awareness and understanding of the health issues men face
  *   Men not openly discussing their health and how they're feeling
  *   Reluctance to take action when men don't feel physically or mentally well
  *   Men engaging in risky activities that threaten their health
  *   Stigmas surrounding mental health
  *   Men are 24 percent less likely than women to have visited a doctor within the past year5
