[Vision2020] The Hawkins Mall . . .

Tom - I'll be on pins and needles until you post your anticlimactic follow ups on this Megamall non-issue. By the way - any updates on the Megaloads? Seems as if 'tick tock' was last thing you posted over and over and over and... Did that alarm ever go off or did the spring in the clock just run out of energy?

I don't dance, Mr. Eiselein. So, take your meaningless garble elsewhere.
Moscow, Pullman, and Hawkins Companies played this game before . . . almost six years ago. Nothing ever came from it, other than Walter Steed's failed, lame attempt at sharing Moscow's water rights with Hawkins Companies.
Here it is 2014 and Hawkins Companies is knocking on doors again.
Pullman and Whitman County have both expressed a lack of interest in renewing their agreement with Hawkins Companies (which coincidentally expires next week).
In addition to shared water rights, another question surfaced six years ago. Since the Hawkins Companies mall doesn't sufficiently benefit the community, just who does benefit? The answer to that question is related to property values.
A friend, and fellow V-Peep, visited the assessor's office in Colfax and obtained public records related to the property surrounding the mall property. Some of the names of those property owners are very familiar here in Moscow.
Hmmm
Stay tuned.

Tom,

How about that giant complex southeast of A&W? What about all those houses off of White Ave and Joseph St?

They've all been built in the past few years.

I swear, the only time you get outside is when there is something you feel the need to protest.

Kai Eiselein inquires:

"So what is the difference between paving over land for a mall and
paving it over for a bunch of cookie cutter houses in a subdivision or
a giant apartment complex besides the fact that I haven't heard too
many people complaining about the latter?"

Those possibilities might be worthy of evaluation and comparison if
anybody actually sought to accomplish either one. But, since
absolutely nobody is considering "paving over land for . . . a bunch of
cookie cutter houses in a subdivision or a giant apartment complex", it
isn't worth the though, huh Mr. Eiselein?

Mr. Eiselein goes on to suggest:

"As for it being a "mega" mall, Tom needs to get real, there isn't the
population base to support an extremely large mall."

Alas, something Mr. Eiselein and I agree on . . . as substantiated by
the infinite comings and goings of retailers from the Palouse Mall.

As for it being a "mega" mall, Tom needs to get real, there isn't the
population base to support an extremely large mall. I believe there is
a need for some retailers who aren't geared completely towards the
under 30 crowd.

Oh, and lets not forget, this will add an influx of cash into Moscow,
as well. I'm sure a number of employees will be from Idaho, earning
Washington wages and spending a portion of that cash here.
