            Hovey,

Today, we honor the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

When remembering Dr. King, the images that come to mind are the larger-than-life historic ones -- like his speech at the Lincoln Memorial. But Dr. King was just a man, who was -- at his core -- an organizer. An organizer of regular folks, seeking equality and economic opportunity. A man who spent his days trying to figure out how to make life better for everyone.

In his last years, he turned his attention to economic opportunity for all working Americans. Dr. King campaigned for a strong minimum wage, for better educational opportunity, for affordable health care, and much more.

And it's those same values that motivate my run for Congress.

We need economic policies that reward work, that make family-wage jobs possible in every corner of the country – especially here in our beautiful little corner of paradise.

We need a health care policy, an immigration policy, an education policy, a veterans’ policy, a trade policy, and a tax policy that brings people together, builds the great American middle class, and looks to the future.

But we have a Congress that is mired in partisan bickering and extreme ideology designed to divide Americans and ensure that the special interests maintain their stranglehold on our democracy. Something has to change.

I'm a teacher, an organizer, a public servant, and a proud Idahoan. I believe that every child should have a shot at the American Dream – and it's the job of our leaders to give them that opportunity.

With your help, we'll carry on Dr. King's work -- and the work of all those who have kept his Dream alive.

We'll talk soon. Learn more at ShirleyRingo.com.
