[Vision2020] yay! we passed $18 trillion!

I'm against the 'one size fits all' approach because it becomes a race to the bottom. That might be fine for mature / commoditized sectors, but it's not good for research / development / technology advancements. I'm all in favor of a level playing field within specific markets, but I'm also in favor of government incentives to boot strap these markets. Solar power and electric cars are a good examples. I'd personally like to see a directive for the United States take lead role in have the first humans set foot on Mars.

Sure, that's basically what I mean. I believe in the free market, which means that we need a level playing field. No monopolies granted by the government, no special rules or tax breaks given to specific corporations. No taxes designed to change behaviors. Complete transparency so the buyer knows what they are buying, That would go a long way to helping things out, in my opinion.

Perhaps eliminate corporate tax breaks and government subsidies going to corporations?

Oh, I don't know. I'd probably start looking at the Department of Defense and at the various subsidies we are giving companies first. With a budget like the government's, there should be lots of places to find fat to trim.

Just what "fat" would you cut, Mr. Rumelhart?
