September 25, 2013 Open House is Public Opportunity to Learn about Mountain View Improvements

September 17, 2013 (Moscow, Idaho) - The City of Moscow invites the public to attend an open house meeting to learn more about the current Mountain View Road improvements project. The open house is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the Latah County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building off of Harold Street.

The open house will be an informal setting and people are welcome to attend anytime between 5 and 7 p.m.  No formal presentations are scheduled.  Project staff will be available to answer questions, provide information and receive comments.

"Much of Moscow's growth over the last 15 years has been on the eastern side of the city," said Kevin Lilly, City Engineer. "Mountain View is the only north-south arterial roadway in this part of town, and therefore carries the majority of the traffic."

The Mountain View Road Improvement project is intended to improve traffic flow and safety between the Paradise Creek Bridge, adjacent to the Latah County Fairgrounds (approximately 300 feet north of White Avenue), and the intersection of Mountain View Road and 6th Street.
Potential project features include:

*        Widening the existing 24 foot paved, two-lane rural road to a 36 foot wide, two lane, urban road section

*        Bicycle lanes

*        Storm drainage improvements

*        Illumination upgrade

*        Curbs, gutters, sidewalks, tree lawns, and ADA compliant curb ramps

*        Intersection improvements at Mountain View and 6th Street

The City of Moscow has completed similar improvements of the roadway north and south of the proposed project limits. The proposed project will upgrade the largest remaining section of the road to match those previous improvements, and provide a safer pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular traffic corridor.

J-U-B ENGINEERS of Coeur d'Alene has been hired as the design engineer. The Langdon Group, a subsidiary of J-U-B, is managing public involvement.
