Mislabeling Moscow
Suddenly, a month before the election, the drum beat from Nancy Chaney's opponent and the other Greater Moscow Alliance-sponsored candidates is that Moscow suffers from an anti-business reputation. While these candidates themselves have stated that Moscow is not anti-business or anti-growth, they state that "perception is reality."
I say "reality is reality."
Three of the top five years for commercial construction ever recorded in Moscow occurred between 2008 and 2012, hovering around $10 million in 2008, 2011 and 2012, well above the 28-year average of $6.3 million.
Residential construction doubled from $7.5 million in 2011 to $15 million in 2012, for total permitted construction - residential and commercial - valued at just under $25 million last year.
So where does this anti-business perception come from? Take a look at the GMA political action committee's ads for that answer. If Bill Lambert, Walter Steed and John Weber are concerned about the anti-business perception, they should ask the GMA to stop using their names in ads perpetuating this negative message, and they should change their message to one that touts the economic growth occurring in Moscow rather than dwelling on the unexplainable "anti-business" reputation. If they do this, we may just see this "problem" disappear.
