Yes. I was in a home-town grade-school classroom with a loudspeaker in
a box on the wall.
The assassination announcement was noticeable because the loudspeaker
had not been used before,
and the school principal, who was a reserve Army National Guard captain,
had not addressed the
entire school simultaneously before.

There was no outward reaction to the announcement. Teachers did not
cry, class discussions
did not occur, and school was not dismissed in the middle of the day to
school bus drivers who were
elsewhere and to parents who were not expecting children home at other
than the usual times.

Less than a year later, a majority of red-state Idaho voters cast
Kennedy-sympathy votes for
Lyndon Baines Johnson, the vast majority of them clearly not knowing
many relevant facts.

Julius Caesar, Jesus Christ, Abraham Lincoln, John Fitzgerald Kennedy --
rest in peace.
