<So, tell us, Scott . . . What do you consider to be an acceptable body count?>

Tom - I don't have have an 'acceptable body count' number so I'm fine going with whatever number yours is even if your number is zero. There are very few details at this point regarding what transpired. I'd say it's a positive that the gun didn't wind up in that hands of a mad person on an airplane so the checkpoints might have done a fine job in this instance. We can discuss more when details become available.

Suddenly get concerned about guns, Mr. Rumelhart???
I have been concerned about the inappropriate use of guns longer than I have been retired from the Army. I have voiced my concern several times right here on the Viz.
As far as information is concerned, CNN television is reporting one casualty (a TSA employee), 3-4 injured, suspect (and his assault rifle) has been apprehended.
LAPD, LAX PD, and LA Fire Department are currently conducting an investigation.

I'll never understand this fascination with highly-publicized shootings.

If today is an average day, and the averages for 2013 are in line with 2010, then 33 people will die today in the US due to a firearm-related homicide, 49 will die in a firearm-related suicide, and one will die due to an unintentional shooting.

Yet it's these highly-publicized shootings that cause people to suddenly get concerned about guns, oftentimes long before any reliable information can be found about what even happened, let alone any other related information pertinent to the issue of guns in America.
