Giving up bombing is relatively straightforward to accomplish, but
ceasing to interfere is another matter. The long history of relations
among Western and Muslim countries will not soon be forgotten, and
memories can be as interfering as physical presence. Memories of loved
ones and fellow citizens now gone compounded with ill-health and
unexpected disease in the wake of war activities suggest that multiple
generations now alive will continue to be interfered with for quite some
time to come, even if the unlikely event of all troops returning to
their home countries were to occur. Additionally, the presence and
desired use of Middle Eastern natural resources, and the presence of
nuclear materials in some Muslim countries together practically
guarantee continued future interest by Western countries in Muslim
countries' assets and activities. Nonetheless, your suggestion that
changes in Western behavior might lead to relationship results more
favorable to Western interests likely is correct. Just as a parent who
treats children cruelly, and is rewarded with a cruel successor
generation, teaches the lesson that better parenting skill yields better
offspring outcomes, so it is likely the case that, over a period of
decades, better international behavior and diplomacy will yield better
and more productive international relationships.
