The real question is, why are our police running around in M2 Bradley 
Fighting Vehicles with 25mm main guns?

But, no, I was thinking of the weaponry individual police officers and 
security guards use when patrolling, not the militarized toys they use 
to assault religious compounds with.

Yeah, maybe tear gas is going too far.  I was thinking about rubber 
bullets and tasers when I wrote that.
