Man rescues 16 cats after being trapped in foreclosed home
CAPE CORAL, Fla.- "They were left to die. If no one got in there they would have stayed trapped in the house. It was hot there was no food- no water. It was just a horrible situation."
Damon Sleicher said he walked into a Cape Coral foreclosure Wednesday.
"Urine all over the place, feces everywhere, and cats in every room."
He quickly noticed sixteen pairs of eyes staring back at him.
Sleicher brought all of the cats to the Southwest Florida Veterinary Care Center. The Vet carefully looked over each one. Then he paid the one-thousand dollar vet bill.
Dr. Stephanie King said, "Quite a few of them had hematomas that's pockets of blood, potentially infections in their ears, we think their were probably a lot of fighting in the house when they were confined so there was trauma in their ears from that."
Dr. King said two of the sixteen have club feet and one may need his leg amputated. But if Sleicher didn't come along when he did there's no telling what would have happened to them.
He said, "We really saved the cats and got them to a good place now."
Most of them are at Helping Paws Animal Sanctuary in Saint James City-looking for a loving family.
