Southwick: 'I didn't do anything wrong'
BOISE -- Boise State senior quarterback Joe Southwick spoke out in an exclusive interview with KTVB Sunday night, just two days after he was sent home from Hawaii for violating team rules.
"I'm here to... clear my name, clear the name of my parents," Southwick said. "People in the community hopefully realize I didn't do anything wrong and stop throwing my name in the mud."
Southwick was suspended from the Hawaii Bowl and sent home by interim head coach Bob Gregory on Friday, just a day after the team arrived on the island. Earlier that day a Boise State spokesman confirmed that both Southwick and redshirt freshman quarterback Nick Patti missed the Broncos afternoon practice due to "team violations."
Patti has since been reinstated, although no reason was provided.

Southwick told KTVB his suspension from the bowl game was "unwarranted."
The question many Boise State fans are asking, is what exactly is he accused of?
According to Southwick, he is accused of urinating off of a balcony at the team hotel.
Southwick tells KTVB that, in fact, it was another player who had done it. He said he had gone out Thursday evening and when he returned to the hotel, he witnessed a player urinate off the balcony. He went to bed that night and it wasn't until the next the morning when he found out about the accusation.
A short time later, he was informed that he was being sent home. Southwick admits he lost his temper.
Scott Slant: Say it ain't so, Joe (and he does)
"It just turned to finger pointing, and it ended up being three people against one person saying something, and I guess the temper tantrum of one person didn't look good and there was no investigation. This was an absolute rushed decision, probably made in about 20 minutes."
Southwick said he was dropped off at the airport a short time later.
"Took my bags out, gave me a hand shake and said, 'thanks for everything. See ya'"
He said he tried to contact Boise State administrators while waiting at the airport.
"I actually reached out multiple times to certain people in the Boise State administration, saying 'hey, I'm here 'til nine, please launch an investigation into this, let's get to the bottom of it,' to no avail."
During his interview, Southwick brought with him the results of a polygraph test, which he says vindicate him.

He said he would be willing to share the polygraph results with Boise State coaches and administrators, but insisted he doesn't want to speak ill of the school.
"I don't want this to turn into me against Boise State," Southwick said. "I love Boise State. What they've been able to do for me these past five years, is life changing. And this situation that occurred the last five days could also be life changing, obviously for the negative for me."
Southwick said he simply wants to clear his name.
"It's just really important for myself and my family to get this cleared up and show that really the decision makers in place had a rushed decision, there was no process to properly judicate what happened," Southwick said "It's really disappointing that it came to this."
Boise State University issued a statement Monday regarding the decision to send Southwick home:

"We investigated the matter with university administrators, coaching staff, a law enforcement official, hotel security and student-athletes. We made the decision to send the student-athlete home, and we stand by this difficult decision."

There will be no further comment from Boise State.
