Gritman Announces Purchase of Moscow Federal Building
Gritman Medical Center is pleased to announce that it is acquiring the Moscow Federal Building. The Medical Center provided the winning bid of $2.38 million on Sunday, October 14, in the U.S. General Services Administration's online real estate auction.

To continue offering and expanding patient services and to continue recruiting physicians, Gritman Medical Center requires additional space to grow, says Kara Besst, President and CEO of the award winning hospital. "This helps us continue our commitment to the community."

"We have been developing a new facility master plan and the Federal Building will play a strategic role in the plan," Besst says.

The Federal Building is attractive strategically for the hospital in that it:

has 43,049 square feet of net rentable space, of which 9,887 square feet is currently vacant
provides parking for 108 vehicles
provides short-term and long-term options for meeting Gritman's facility needs
allows Gritman to grow its presence in downtown Moscow
provides Gritman space to expand services and continue its commitment to the community
Gritman Medical Center has been in downtown Moscow for more than 100 years and is landlocked at its 700 South Main Street location. It recommitted to remaining downtown in 2004 when 52,000 square feet were added for a new Family Birth Center, Outpatient Lab, Outpatient Clinics, Women's Imaging Center, Inpatient Unit, Critical Care Unit and heli pad.

The Federal Building can provide short, medium and long-term solutions to hospital space issues. For the short-term, the vacant space may be used for temporary relocation of non-clinical departments and/or services.

For medium-term, the building may be used for permanent relocation of selected hospital services.

For long-term, the land provides options for permanent development of new hospital or clinic buildings and/or parking to support Gritman strategic planning and facility needs.

"We are very pleased to learn that a local entity like Gritman Medical Center has purchased the Moscow Federal Building," says Dave McGraw, Latah County Commissioner. "Gritman has a proven track record and is committed and loyal to Latah County. We look forward to working with Gritman to retain Latah County offices in the building."
