This entire dispute from the beginning and continuing on in its absurd,
agonizing way is an example of why our current political system and cast of
characters is so badly out of touch with reality, so dysfunctional, and
probably is almost unfixable.

!. There is no doubt that computers, online instruction, etc can be
designed to greatly assist in the achieving important educational goals,
and there are many good reasons for this. Even those opposed to Luna's
approach have cited here on this forum some good/effective programs.

2. There is no doubt that well trained, committed teachers are an
indispensable element in achieving important educational goals. I know
from experience that even the brightest learners need help, guidance, and
encouragement/motivation to succeed let alone the average and disadvantaged
students.

It is not hard to find out which computer aided instruction works. It is
not hard to find which teachers and teaching techniques are the most
effective.

So, why can't all of us concerned with providing a high quality public
education and the obvious benefits that it would have for the future of our
country have a rational discussion based on known, ongoing, or needed
research and come to some consensus about how to proceed instead of having
a polarized, money driven, special
interests (yes, both sides are special interests) produce an ugly cat fight
where the losers will be our children and the future of our country.
