(quoted in part)

-----------------------------------

. . . speaking of community concerns, Moscow’s Tom Hansen brought up a couple of interesting topics on V2020 this week. The first was that since the 1912 Center was marking its centennial this year, someone should remind the Moscow City Council that a celebration might be in order. He wondered if anyone knew the official opening date.

Secondly, Hansen wrote that his group. “Moscow Cares,” was going to finance a competition for an official city song ($2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second place and $500 for third place) to be conducted at Farmers Market Saturday; judging to be done by members of the Moscow Arts Commission.

Mayor Nancy Chaney had endorsed the idea, Hansen reported.

The idea was submitted to the Moscow Arts Commission via the Moscow Arts Department, only to be informed that the Arts Commission didn’t have the time, says Hansen.

“I’ll just have to remember that the next time they want somebody to videotape a Moscow arts anniversary and create a CD for them, like ‘Moscow Cares’ did for their 30th anniversary,” Hansen wrote.

The INKster thought this sounded like a terrific idea, especially with all the music students in town.

-----------------------------------

Thank you, Vera. That was very kind of you.

The offer remains on the table . . .

$2,000 - First Place
$1,000 - Second Place
$500 - Third Place

Once the winner has been selected, the song WILL NOT be copyrighted and WILL become public domain.

The biggest catch, since the Arts Commission/Department has not shown any interest in pursuing this matter, is to have the song officially adopted by the city of Moscow.

We must, also, identify a place and time to conduct the competition, as well as a group of non-affiliated persons to perform the role as judges.
