City Warns Citizens to be Aware of Telephone Scams

March 27, 2012 (Moscow, Idaho) - During the past week the Moscow Police Department has received numerous complaints involving a telephone scam. The caller usually identifies themselves as a grandchild and states that they have been involved in an emergency situation and is in desperate need of money.  The caller states that they are too embarrassed to ask their parents for the funds and asks that the money be wired to an overseas account. If you receive a telephone call from anyone identifying themselves as a grandchild and asking for money, ask questions and verify, that in fact the individual is a family relative and is out of the county.

The Moscow Police Department asks that people not respond to this request and always be cautious when someone uses the telephone to solicit money.  This has been an ongoing scam for some period of time.
