PRESS RELEASE
City of Moscow Flood Response
March 26, 2012 (Moscow, Idaho) - The City of Moscow initiated a Level 1 Flood Response at 9:15 p.m., March 25th, 2012. At that time monitoring of vulnerable locations, notification of pertinent personnel, and equipment and material staging began. At 6:00 a.m. that designation was elevated to a Level II Flood Response. Crews from the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department, Public Works, and Parks & Recreation Departments are assisting by filling sandbags and delivering them to prioritized locations and the City will continue to monitor and respond to affected areas. The City of Moscow's Flood Response System was developed to specifically address potential flooding issues in Moscow and includes three levels of response.
Please be aware that localized flooding is occurring. For concerns regarding water levels please contact the Streets Department at 208-883-7097 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For emergency flooding concerns contact Whitcom at any hour by calling 911 or 208-882-COPS (2677).
The City has a large supply of sand bags that are available to residents free of charge, should localized flooding occur. The City will supply the materials and citizens are asked to fill the bags they need. For sand please visit the City of Moscow Street Shop at 650 N. Van Buren Street; for more information please call 208-883-7097.
