While growing up in the San Fernando Valley of southern California, my dad and grandfather would take me regularly to a target range where I became fairly proficient in the use of a couple .22 caliber rifles they had given me as a child. My grandfather also trained me in the use and maintenance of two other weapons, a double-barreled 12-gauge side-by-side shotgun (which was lost years ago in transit from one duty station to another) and a .410-.22 over-and-under (which I still possess). I purchased a 12-gauge pump shotgun a few years ago (which I still possess)
I never owned a handgun and never will. In my opinion, a shotgun provides better home security than any handgun or rifle ever will.
Seeya round town, Moscow.

My father, a natural and outrageously accurate marksman, taught me me not only how to shoot with extreme accuracy, but insisted on the utmost safety precautions and procedures. That early training has been useful to me, and at times saved me from harassment, bodily harm, death, and loss of property.

Without wanting to get into a long wrangle, I believe strongly in the right of self defense, but none-the-less, I think there are some that ought not be allowed to carry weapons because of past serious criminal violations and past or current mental health problems.
