[Vision2020] Handgun Clinic

By the time I was 10 years old I was already very proficient with the two
handguns, three rifles, and a shotgun we owned.  My father, a natural and
outrageously accurate marksman, taught me me not only how to shoot with
extreme accuracy, but insisted on the utmost safety precautions and
procedures.  That early training has been useful to me, and at times saved
me from harassment, bodily harm, death, and loss of property.

If people are going to possess weapons, then it is important for their own
and others (particularly children in the family or on the premises) well
being to handle weapons safely and, if the need arises, shoot accurately.

The problem arises when weapons training does not include lessons about the
discretion and legal issues of when to use the weapons.  Without wanting to
get into a long wrangle, I believe strongly in the right of self defense,
but none-the-less, I think there are some that ought not be allowed to
carry weapons because of past serious criminal violations and past or
current mental health problems.
