Idaho gets $3.1M to link workforce data, education

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Idaho is the recipient of federal millions, this time a $3.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education's research arm aimed at helping develop public education programs that meet the needs of the workforce.

The federal Institute of Education Sciences announced that Idaho is among states getting money meant to link data from the workforce with the state's system of tracking student achievement.

Idaho has lagged behind other states in developing its tracking system.

State Board of Education President Ken Edmunds said Wednesday this cash infusion from Washington, D.C., will help Idaho obtain data and evaluate student progress.

Edmunds says the aim is to help more students who are transitioning from high school to college, adding improved information will help Idaho focus its education efforts for maximum student benefit.
