PRESS RELEASE
City of Moscow coordinates parking alternatives during construction of Jackson Street Lot

June 11, 2012 (Moscow, Idaho) - On June 4th, the City of Moscow City Council approved the award of a construction contract with Gropp Electric for the installation of new LED street light fixtures in the South Jackson Street parking lot as part of the final phase of the City's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant. The contractor is scheduled to commence work on this project on Monday, June 11th with an anticipated duration of three weeks. During the construction operations the South Jackson Street parking lot will be subject to closures to the public. Gropp Electric has committed to work with the City to maintain some parking availability in the South Jackson Street lot. The amount and location of the available parking will change daily throughout the project. Signage will be placed in the lot daily to indicate which parking bays are available for use. Overnight parking in the South Jackson Street lot will be prohibited to ensure no delays in the construction operations.

The reduction of parking availability in the South Jackson Street parking lot will result in the temporary removal of public parking in the Central Business District. To offset this loss of parking the City has secured temporary use of two existing gravel parking lots located on the west side of Jackson Street opposite the South Jackson Street lot. These temporary lots will be signed for public parking and will be available for day and night use. The locations of these lots can be found on the attached map (or at http://tinyurl.com/7rzpamy) and are labeled as the "Hansen Lots."

The public is reminded that there are other City owned public parking lots in the Central Business District that are available for use during this construction activity. All lot options as well as overnight parking options are outlined on the attached map (or at http://tinyurl.com/7rzpamy). Public lots and designated on street parking on First, Second, Fourth, and Fifth Streets between Washington Street and Jackson Street are included. Posted parking restrictions will remain in effect during this period.

Questions regarding the South Jackson Street Parking Lot closure, LED light installation project, or parking options may be directed to Les MacDonald, Public Works Director at 208-883-7028 or by email to lmacdonald at ci.moscow.id.us<mailto:lmacdonald at ci.moscow.id.us>.
