[Vision2020] Huh?

Roger asks, "And just what is wrong with that statement? The economy of the south was built on slavery."

The same argument could be made for societies with concentration work camps. No society is deserving of an existent or economy that strips innocent members of its community of all rights and personhood.

And continues with. . .

"Why do you think that Washington waited until he died to free his slaves in his will."

Actually, Roger, he didn't free them because they were owned by his wife, Martha. He  willed his wife to free them after her death so she was not abandoned. Martha Washington freed the slaves before her death because the slaves knew the moment she died they were free; as one could imagine the feeling of slaves waiting in anticipation for her death and their freedom made her uncomfortable.

Also stated:

" It is also why Jefferson and Madison made an exception to their other wise freedom for all views."

Actually, they did so because the Constitution would not be ratified by enough states to pass. They felt this issue needed to be secondary to first establishing the Union, fighting the British, and forming a new government. They left the issue to be resolved to future generations, with bloody consequences.
