Idaho AG: Denney can't remove GOP redistricter

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - The Idaho attorney general's office says House Speaker Lawerence Denney can't fire a Republican redistricting commissioner.

Denney threatened Thursday to oust former state Rep. Dolores Crow of Nampa, on grounds she supported a plan too favorable to Democrats.

Crow said she'll fight attempts to boot her.

According to the attorney general's opinion issued Friday to Idaho Secretary of State Ben Ysursa, political leaders like Denney who appointed Crow to the commission last year don't appear to have the authority to remove commissioners.

The Idaho Supreme Court this week called the redistricting commission back to Boise, after ruling their legislative maps were unconstitutional.

Democrats say they'll stick by all their commissioners.

Senate GOP leader Brent Hill will stick by his appointment, while GOP chairman Norm Semanko hasn't returned calls about his.
