After complaints, Idaho may change food stamps
 - The Associated Press
With a record 235,000 people now getting food stamps, Idaho grocery
stores have complained they've been deluged by recipients on the first
day of every month when the benefits are issued, causing supply-chain
problems.
Consequently, the Department of Health and Welfare says it's working with industry to stagger days when the federal food benefits
that now total about $30 million monthly are distributed.
Director Dick Armstrong says switching to a system when food stamps are issued
on more than one day will be more expensive - as much as $220,000 more
annually, to pay for four state staffers who will have to answer phone
calls and alleviate confusion from people who are unfamiliar with
changes.Armstrong says the more complicated Idaho's system is, the more costly it will become.
