Idaho National Guard troops poised to deploy
BOISE, Idaho (AP) - About 60 members of the Idaho National Guard are getting ready to head overseas to take part in combat missions in Afghanistan.

Col. Tim Marsano says about 60 troops from Company A, 1-168 General Support Aviation Battalion will deploy Saturday, with the first stop scheduled for Ft. Hood, Texas. The unit is based at Gowen Field in Boise and includes pilots and support crew assigned to eight Black Hawk helicopters.

The crew will train and prepare in Texas for two months before starting a yearlong assignment in Afghanistan. The crew focuses on rescue missions and transporting personnel and equipment.

The unit's crew members have already served overseas twice in the last decade, traveling to Southwest Asia in 2001, and assisting in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007.
