Of course, we have a whole class that fail and walk away with millions. Leo Apotheker, who just departed HP after 11 months was given $13 million in severance. He was paid $10 in bonuses to sign on. In the NY Times today:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/01/business/lets-stop-rewarding-failed-ceos-common-sense.html?ref=business
A quote from the article:
“It’s a great irony that spectacular failure is rewarded lavishly,” John J. Donohue, a professor at Stanford law school and the president of the American Law and Economics Association, told me. “It is a terrible mistake to set up a structure where the top person walks away with millions even if the company is laid waste by their poor decision-making, yet this is what’s happening. It’s a shocking departure from capitalist incentives if you lavish riches on the losers.”

The opportunity to succeed also inculdes the right to fail. Shere are no guarantees. It is understood that there are some folks through no fault of their own are at a disadvantage. severely handicapped or disabled people need to be provided for. The normal ablebodied do not.
